AND ON BRAND-NEW TOLL HIGHWAYS, SOMETIMES THERE IS NOT A SINGLE PETROL STATION FOR FIFTY KILOMETERS. THAT'S WHEN EVEN FIVE LITERS OF FUEL CAN BE VERY USEFUL!

We bought 11 five-liter jerrycans, plastic and metal. The conclusions of our research relate to proven samples and are not an assessment of the entire range of products of the same name.

What and how do we test?

What are five liters equal to? The purchased jerrycans vary markedly in shape and dimensions. How much does it fit in them? If more than five liters, good. If it is less, the jerrycan gets a failure.

Fill it up! The convenience of fuel transfusion is affected by the presence of a siphon tube for air access, the design of the handle, the sealing of the neck into the body and its diameter. This parameter is one of the most important: it is when refueling that you realize how convenient the jerrycan is. It's one thing when petrol pours into the petrol tank in a powerful and uniform stream, and quite another when the jerrycan begins to "hiccup" and petrol splashes out of the neck past the funnel.

Inflate! Petrol expands when heated. The pressure of saturated vapors, which inflates the jerrycans from the inside, according to the State Standard GOST 32513-2013 "Motor fuels. Unleaded gasoline" can reach 1 bar. But this is the limit value, which is hardly achievable in everyday use, even if you leave the jerrycan in the bright sun for a long time. Therefore, for verification, we limited ourselves to a pressure of 0.7 bar. We evaluate the deformation of the body and the ability of the jerrycan to return to its former shape.

After the tests

In general, the results of the examination can be considered positive: none of the jerrycans failed. However, the difference between leaders and outsiders is significant. Only two jerrycans did not cause us any complaints — plastic Oktan classic and metal Rexxon.
